Cleansing Fire

Across this plaza
Footsteps echo

The people hide
And please themselves
Not caring what is going on outside

The footsteps get louder
A voice joins in

It calls out
Asking those inside
To come out

Asking them to come out
And to repent
Of those guilty pleasures

Warning them what will happen
If they continue
Down this path

All the people hear
Only some stay
And repent of those guilty pleasures

Those who heard the word
Followed the footsteps out
Leaving those who didn’t repent to continue down their path

Soon the fire comes
Trapping those who are left
Screaming for help

Their cries cannot be heard
For they choose to stay
In their sins

That fire cleansed the city
Leaving nothing
But ashes and tears

Of One who heard
And is heartbroken
Who wanted to save them

Who came for them
Who died for them
Who rose for them
Who was rejected for them
Who was hated for them

That one was
The Son of Man and God
The One who loved mankind
Even though they didn’t love him

His name
Is Jesus
The Son of God
And who is God
